Tryouts

2026-27 Team Selections

We will attempt to select teams based on training/commitment Level, National 1 Elite, National 1, and Club Regional, as well as athletic ability and/or positional skill.  Prospective athletes will be separated by commitment level during the process – it is important that families communicate the levels that they are comfortable with to sign a contract.​

The Tryout Sessions will incorporate a dynamic warm-up, ball control exercises, individual skill/positional training, out-of-system concepts, and competitive team drills.   A Tryout Committee will evaluate all prospective athletes based on their attitude, coachability, athletic ability, positional skills, and/or potential.​

Team rosters will consist of 10-12 players, and we will place athletes based on similar skills and abilities.  The goal is for each team to have at least 2 setters, 4 outside hitters, 3 middles, and 1 libero.  Coaches may adjust these numbers based on the age level and competitive level of the team. ​

To start your journey with the Arizona Saguaros, join us for our Winter, Spring, Summer, & Fall Camps. Attending our camps before tryouts allows us an opportunity to evaluate your athlete for better team placement. Our Fall camps are set up as Pre-Club Tryout camps, which allows players and parents to try us out while we get to know you.

2026-27 Team Selections

For the 2026-27 club season, the Arizona Saguaros will provide the following team levels: Open travel, Championship travel, and Club no travel.

We will only fill 12 teams. Once those teams are full, no more teams will be added.

2026-27 Club Tryouts

Many players will be trying out for several clubs on these dates throughout the valley. We will host a main tryout date and fill our team rosters. If you missed our tryouts, you could contact us for any available spots.

How do I know what age my player should tryout for?

Step One:  Register with the USA and AAU Volleyball:

All players must be current USAV and AAU Volleyball members 2026-27 season. We suggest that this be completed during the summer months, July or August, so we can get ahead of the Winter registration system. To register, please visit the registration link for details.

  • Bring proof of your USA and AAU Volleyball Membership card, or show a mobile device with the membership number. Please make sure to list our club on your cards so that we can find you in our player pool for rostering purposes (Parents/Guardian Provides)
  • Pay your $25 non-refundable tryout fee
  • Pick up your tryout number

​​Step Two: Fill out the listed documents at tryouts.

  • Player Information Form/Contract (Club Provides)
  • Arizona Region Medical Release Form (Club Provides)
  • Pick up your tryout number and pin it to the back of your shirt (Club Provides)
  • ​Please wear standard activity clothing, such as a t-shirt, gym shorts, athletic shoes, socks, and knee pads. Each participant will receive a club tryout shirt or number to wear during our tryout.
  • Bring a water bottle for water breaks (no sports drinks allowed in the gym).​

A player’s tryout registration will not be considered complete until the paperwork above is turned in on the day of tryouts.  Please be sure to bring it all with you to tryouts.​

​​​Step Three: Sign Commitment Forms and the Player-Parent Club Contract

At the conclusion of the sessions, we will post the rosters of the teams offered.  Players and parents will be asked to sign their contracts, and the initial deposit of $800 (non-refundable) will be required at this time.  Please review the club Commitment Policy before tryouts.  Once a commitment is made, the USAV and AAU consider the athlete committed to the club for the duration of the season, from November to July 1.  Players are not eligible to tryout or practice with another club until the end of the club season.​

Please have a parent available at the conclusion of the tryouts to sign the required documents and to provide payment.

The first monthly payment for all teams will be due on December 10, 2025, of $550.​

Tryout Related Information

Before team selections, the club will host a series of Informational Meetings and Open Houses to assist families in navigating the process of playing competitive volleyball and choosing the right club.  If you have any questions, please contact us!​
